This year, rather than just clean out your medicine cabinet, why not try something different by seeing what alternatives are available for what’s currently in there (and probably out of date anyways). Today we talk essential oils for first aid.

These four essential oils for first aid are our favourites: tea tree, eucalyptus, lavender and peppermint. Together they are your answer to so many different ailments – and they are all natural, no chemicals here.

Tea tree oil

Tea tree oil is well-known for its powerful anti-septic properties, not to mention the fact that it is also anti-bacterial, anti-microbial and anti-fungal. Because of this, it is great as part of an all natural first aid kit.

Here are just a few of the many uses:

  • - Athlete’s foot
  • - Cuts and Scrapes
  • - Insect bites
  • - Warts
  • - Burns
  • - Rashes

Eucalyptus oil

Most of us are familiar with the pungent aroma of eucalyptus oil and have used it a time or two, especially when that cough or sore throat pops up, perhaps as an ingredient in another product. So, why not ditch the other ingredients and go right to the source?

Eucalyptus oil is great for:

  • - Cough and Colds
  • - Sinus congestion
  • - Allergies
  • - Respiratory problems

Lavender Oil

Lavender oil is the most versatile of all essential oils. It is most commonly known for its relaxing effects on the body, but lavender has also been highly regarded for the skin and has a great number of first aid benefits.

What can you use lavender oil for? The following

  • - Headaches
  • - Burns
  • - Aromatherapy
  • - Sore muscles
  • - Anxiety and stress
  • - Trouble sleeping

Peppermint Oil

Almost as versatile as lavender oil, peppermint is recommended for an amazing number of oral and topical uses thanks to its antimicrobial properties. The cooling, soothing sensation it releases can be wonderful in so many different situations.

Here are just some of the great ways to use peppermint oil:

  • - Colic
  • - Stomach aches
  • - Fatigue
  • - Congestion
  • - Sunburns
  • - Rashes

This spring and summer, don’t just clean out that medicine cabinet, give it a total makeover. Using essential oils for first aid is a great way to reduce the use of chemicals and ensure a favourable result, no matter the ailment!
